  

WALKING IN PARIS
No corner of Paris is farther than six miles from the square in front of Notre-Dame Cathedral. The city has a total area of 41 square miles (105 square kilometres), if the two big parks at either extremity are included, and 34 square miles without them.
Paris is actually a very compact city, and if you have the time, you can visit without ever taking any form of transportation! The street crossings are marked with a series of lines as shown in the photograph below, called "zebra crossings":

I have walked from one end of the city to the other. Of course, it took all day, because I stopped along the way!
